The Fairy Tail Legend Returns: A New Manga Series is Coming in Honor of the 20th Anniversary!

Hello Fairy Tail fans, the guild doors are opening once again! Hiro Mashima's world-renowned work is preparing to celebrate its 20th anniversary with a magnificent return. This new "short-term intensive series" (tanki shuchu renzai), which will begin on August 5, 2026, in the 36th and 37th combined issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine, will bring a fresh breath of air to the adventures of Natsu Dragneel and his friends. Stating that the great interest shown even years after the series' finale is entirely due to the unwavering support of the readers, Mashima shared his excitement with the message, "I'm fired up!"
The celebrations are not limited to just a new manga; a special 20th-anniversary trailer full of nostalgia has also been released for fans. In the trailer, the most iconic moments of the series are recalled to the tunes of "Snow Fairy" by FUNKIST, the anime's first opening song. Additionally, in honor of this major milestone, an autograph session tour covering five major cities in Japan (Hokkaido, Tokyo, Aichi, Osaka, and Fukuoka) and a special art exhibition will be organized. Starting from April 11, the entire 328-episode original anime series will be available for viewers to watch for free on the Anime Times YouTube channel.
Starting its publication life in 2006, Fairy Tail became one of the most important giants of the modern shonen genre, selling over 72 million copies worldwide until its finale in 2017. Hiro Mashima is a name known for his incredible speed, capable of working on multiple projects at the same time; he is currently working on Dead Rock while also preparing the story drafts for the sequel series Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest, which is illustrated by Atsuo Ueda. This new short series holds special importance for fans as it will come directly from Mashima's own pen.
This announcement was a wonderful surprise for the community, which had fallen into silence especially after the first season of the Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest anime ended in January 2025. This massive universe, which has continued to grow for 20 years, continues to preserve its legacy with new stories and events. We are eagerly awaiting August to see the guild's loudest and warmest members together again. Let's see what new spells and friendships await us in this new adventure!
