Final Fantasy Artist Yoshitaka Amano Draws Loki and Figarland Shamrock for One Piece Card Game
One Piece Card Game has unveiled new Loki and Figarland Shamrock card illustrations drawn by Yoshitaka Amano, the legendary illustrator of the Final Fantasy series. Amano's fluid lines and dreamlike fantastical style meet the pirate world of One Piece this time at the card table. The announcement was made at an event where Bandai showcased new artwork prepared for the game.
Born in 1952, Amano has been a signature name in character designs, logos, and illustrations for the Final Fantasy series since 1987. He is also known for his drawings in Vampire Hunter D, Gatchaman, and Neil Gaiman's novel The Sandman: The Dream Hunters. This collaboration shows that One Piece Card Game is positioned not only as a competitive game but also as an art platform.
One Piece Card Game is based on Eiichiro Oda's record-breaking manga and has become one of Bandai's fastest-growing trading card games since its release in 2022. Loki and Figarland Shamrock play key roles in the Elbaph arc of the One Piece manga. Loki is known as the Cursed Prince of Elbaph, while Figarland Shamrock is the leader of the God's Knights and Shanks' twin brother. Amano's choice of these two characters shows how close the card game is to the current manga storyline.
In addition to Amano's drawings, other new illustrations for the game's upcoming expansion pack were also shared at the event. These cards are expected to be included in Divine Dragon's Advent (OP-11), the next major set of One Piece Card Game. Bandai has not yet revealed the full list of cards, but it is already being said that Amano's works will be among the highly collectible cards.
Such a collaboration means the meeting of two legendary series for both One Piece and Final Fantasy fans. Amano's mythological and elegant style fits perfectly with Loki's cursed prince aura and Shamrock's noble yet threatening demeanor. In the coming weeks, Bandai is expected to announce the card list and release date for Divine Dragon's Advent; fans will be keeping an eye on official channels.
