GANGSTA. Returns: Kohske's Legendary Manga to Resume in July

We are here with one of the most exciting pieces of news from the manga world! According to the official announcement made as part of the second-anniversary celebrations of Shinchosha’s digital platform Comic Bunch Kai, the cult series GANGSTA. by Kohske is returning to publication on July 3, 2026. This news, coming after a long hiatus, has sparked great joy among the series' loyal fan base.
The reason for the series' long break lies in author Kohske’s difficult battle with a serious autoimmune disease called Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). The artist had previously shared in statements that she lost one eye, suffered paralysis in her fingers, and experienced various complications in her internal organs due to this illness. With the announcement of her return, Kohske sent a note to her fans, stating that she is still searching for "less strenuous drawing methods" and that there might be slight changes to her art style. She also informed readers in advance that chapters might arrive at irregular intervals as her treatment process continues.
GANGSTA. takes place in the crime-ridden and corrupt city of Ergastulum and tells the story of Worick Arcangelo and Nicolas Brown, known as the "Handymen." The series, which particularly draws attention with its concept of "Twilights"—individuals who possess superpowers but lead tragic lives—is considered one of the most unique examples of the seinen genre with its dark atmosphere and deep character development. The series first began in 2011 in Monthly Comic @Bunch magazine and was adapted into an anime by Manglobe studio in 2015; however, due to the studio's bankruptcy and the author's health issues, the story could not be completed.
This comeback not only heralds new chapters but is also crowned by a major campaign offered by the Comic Bunch Kai platform in honor of its 2nd anniversary. The platform is offering the opportunity to read past chapters of many popular series, including GANGSTA., for free. For fans wondering how the story will progress since the 8th volume released in 2018, this process offers a great opportunity to refresh their memories.
In conclusion, Kohske not putting down her pen despite all the difficulties is considered a rare example of perseverance in the manga industry. Although chapters are expected to arrive slowly and irregularly starting in July, the fact that the story of Nicolas and Worick will reach its conclusion is more important to the community than anything else. We will continue to closely follow updates regarding the release dates of the series' new volumes and Kohske's health status in the coming period.
