Gintama Creator Hideaki Sorachi Returns: Three New Manga Series Starting in April

The wait is finally over for Gintama fans! Shueisha's legendary magazine Weekly Shonen Jump has created a huge buzz in the manga world by announcing that three new series will begin in April 2026. The most notable name in this new wave is Hideaki Sorachi, who is returning with a regular serialization for the first time since Gintama, which concluded in 2019. Known by the nickname "Gorilla-sensei," Sorachi will bring his unique brand of humor to a fantasy world this time.
Sorachi's new manga, 2-nen B-gumi Yūsha Destroyers (Class 2-B Hero Destroyers), will meet readers in the magazine's 21st issue, to be published on April 20th. Described as a fantasy comedy, the series follows a world where the demon king has been kicked out of his castle by heroes. This project is considered one of the most important events of the year in the industry, as it is Sorachi's first major step since Gintama, which ran for over 700 chapters and sold 73 million copies worldwide. Additionally, reports indicate that the author's first one-shot work, Dandelion, will receive an anime adaptation on Netflix on April 16th.
The innovations in April are not limited to Sorachi. In the 19th issue to be published on April 6th, Atsushi Nakamura, known for the Agravity Boys series, will begin his new horror-comedy manga titled Roku no Okashina Ie (Roku's Strange House). Immediately after, on April 13th, Masayoshi Satoshō will bring a fresh breath to the magazine with the basketball drama Natsu to Mushikago (Summer and the Insect Cage). These three new series are also harbingers of some changes in the magazine's current rankings and potential finales.
These new beginnings are considered an important part of Weekly Shonen Jump's 2026 strategy. In particular, the return of heavy hitters like Sorachi will increase both the magazine's physical sales and engagement on the digital platform Manga Plus. Fans are eagerly waiting to see if they will see Sorachi's famous absurd humor and fourth-wall-breaking style in his new series. The reception of the first chapters of these series in the coming weeks will directly affect the magazine's future popularity charts (TOC).
