Gintama Creator Hideaki Sorachi Returns: Weekly Shonen Jump Announces Three New Series!

The manga world is being shaken up! Weekly Shonen Jump has excited fans by announcing the launch of three new series over three consecutive weeks in April. The biggest bombshell of this announcement is undoubtedly the return of Hideaki Sorachi (also known as Gorilla-sensei), the creator of the legendary Gintama series, who is returning to the magazine with a new long-running series after a full seven-year hiatus.
The new publication period will begin with the 19th issue, which will be released on April 6th. First, Roku no Okashina Ie (Roku's Strange House), written by Atsushi Nakamura (Agravity Boys), will meet readers. Telling the story of a child cursed five times, this series is introduced as a unique production that blends horror and comedy. Immediately following this, on April 13th, Masayoshi Satozho's (Momiji no Kisetsu) new basketball drama work, Natsu no Mushikago (Summer and the Insect Cage), will hit the shelves.
However, all eyes are locked on the 21st issue to be published on April 20th. Hideaki Sorachi will take the stage with his new series titled 2-Nen B-Gumi Yusha Destroyers (Class 2-B Hero Destroyers). A fantasy comedy, the series will focus on the absurd events that occur after the demon king is kicked out of his castle by heroes. After Gintama, which ran for 77 volumes and sold over 73 million copies between 2003 and 2019, the kind of world Sorachi will build is a subject of great curiosity.
April is coming not only with new manga but also with other surprises for Sorachi fans. Dandelion, the mangaka's first professional work from 2002, will be released as a 7-episode anime series on Netflix on April 16th. This adaptation, prepared by Studio NAZ, serves as a journey to the roots of Sorachi's career. This move by Weekly Shonen Jump is seen as part of a strategy to inject fresh blood into the magazine following the recent conclusions of popular series and to bring together old legends with a new generation of readers.
