Hetalia World Stars Gangsta Ends: Popular Series Goes on Indefinite Hiatus

The unique humor of the Hetalia world and its characters, who personify nations, were presented to us in a different atmosphere this time. However, as all good things must come to an end, famous mangaka Hidekaz Himaruya's alternative universe-themed spin-off series Hetalia World Stars Gangsta has officially reached its finale. With the final chapter published on April 23, 2026, it was announced that not only this spin-off but the entire Hetalia manga series will be entering an indefinite hiatus.
Starting its publication on the Shonen Jump+ platform in February 2024, Hetalia World Stars Gangsta presented the familiar Hetalia universe in a more "punk" and "grunge" atmosphere, blended with crime world themes. In this chaotic world where each of the 200 different regions has its own leader, the power struggles between characters were followed with great interest by fans. The first collected volume (tankobon) of the series hit the shelves in April 2025. Mangaka Hidekaz Himaruya stated in his announcement on X (formerly Twitter) that this break is necessary both for the compilation of existing chapters into books and for the planning of new future projects.
Looking at the history of the Hetalia series, we see that such breaks are actually opportunities for the evolution of the series. Starting as a webcomic in 2006, Hetalia: Axis Powers eventually turned into a massive franchise. The main series, Hetalia World Stars, which began in 2014, also took a long hiatus between 2018 and 2021 before returning even stronger. Himaruya is not just an illustrator but also a name known for his productivity in the industry, recognized for other projects such as Prime Minister Club. This latest hiatus decision, as we approach the 20th anniversary of the series, has brought the question "Is a big announcement coming?" among fans.
So, what awaits the fans next? For the Hetalia community, this break is seen not as a farewell, but rather as a period of respite. Beyond the manga, the series' anime seasons and the stage musicals that have achieved great success in Japan continue to maintain their popularity. In particular, the success of the latest musical staged in June 2025 is proof of how fresh the interest in the series still is. Although there is no definitive information yet regarding Hidekaz Himaruya's new projects and the return date of the main series, it is anticipated that the mangaka will use this period to develop creative ideas that will further expand the series.
