Gintama Creator Hideaki Sorachi Returns: New Manga "2-nen B-gumi Yusha Destroyers" Announced!

One of the most unique and beloved pens in the manga world, Hideaki Sorachi, is preparing to break his long silence. In the 21st issue of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, to be published on April 20, 2026, the master author's brand-new series titled 2-nen B-gumi Yusha Destroyers (Class 2-B Hero Destroyers) will begin. This new move by Sorachi, nicknamed "Gorilla-sensei" by his fans, marks his first full-time serialization approximately seven years after the legendary Gintama series, which concluded in 2019.
The new series 2-nen B-gumi Yusha Destroyers will combine fantasy and comedy, genres that are Sorachi's area of expertise. The story centers around a demon king who is kicked out of his castle by a hero. According to initial reports, the series will follow this demon king as he trains a group of students to take revenge and reclaim his castle. Sorachi's absurd sense of humor and fourth-wall-breaking narrative style, which he showcased in Gintama, are expected to be felt in this new production as well.
Hideaki Sorachi wrote his name in manga history in golden letters with Gintama, which ran from 2003 to 2019. Selling over 73 million copies worldwide and inspiring countless anime seasons, films, and live-action adaptations, Gintama influenced a generation with both its emotional depth and relentless comedy. Sorachi's return is seen as the most important part of Weekly Shonen Jump's three-week new series offensive starting in April. During this process, new works by names such as Atsushi Nakamura and Masayoshi Satoshō will also meet readers.
This new manga series is not the only good news for Sorachi fans. The author's first one-shot work, published in 2002, Dandelion, is also being adapted into an anime. This 7-episode special anime series, prepared by Studio NAZ, will be available to audiences worldwide on Netflix on April 16, 2026. With both the start of a new manga series and the adaptation of an old work into an anime, 2026 seems set to become a true "Year of Sorachi." Readers will take their first steps into this new universe created by the master author with the first chapter on April 20.
