Hirao Juroku's New Action Manga "Under Edge" Begins Serialization

A fresh breath is coming to the manga world! The highly anticipated new series Under Edge by young talent Hirao Juroku officially began in the 6th issue of Kodansha's good! Afternoon magazine as of May 7th. Centering on themes of "near future, hardcore violence, and action," this new series successfully draws readers into a dark and mysterious atmosphere with its first chapter. Introduced with a cover and opening color pages in the magazine's new issue, the work has already started to be talked about among fans of the genre.
At the heart of the story is the character Kirishima, who survived a tragic SAT (Special Assault Team) raid in the past. After the incident, Kirishima withdraws from the field and returns to SIT 5th Division to prove the innocence of his senior friend, who was accused in a shooting incident. However, the partner who will accompany him on his journey to find the real culprit is not the kind of hero we are used to; on the contrary, he is a very dangerous former criminal! The efforts of this unusual duo to solve strange and violent cases in the city's underworld form the main dynamic of the series.
The creator of the series, Hirao Juroku, is not entirely new to the manga world. The author gained significant attention by winning an honorable mention award for his work "Kienai Nyo no Awa" at the prestigious Afternoon Shiki Awards held in the summer of 2024. Under Edge marks the young artist's first long-running serialization. Initial impressions in the industry suggest that Hirao's harsh drawing style and in-depth character construction will satisfy action lovers in the seinen (adult male readership) genre.
