A New Horror Series from the Creator of Shaman King: CoroCiao Horror Label Begins!

Shogakukan, one of the giants of the manga world, has taken a brand new step that will excite horror fans. The company has officially launched a new manga label called CoroCiao Horror, created by joining forces between the boys' magazine Corocoro Comic and the girls' magazine Ciao. The most notable news from this new venture is that Noro, a new horror manga by master artist Hiroyuki Takei, who gained worldwide fame with the Shaman King series, will be the pioneer of this label.
The first three works to be released under the CoroCiao Horror label will hit shelves on April 28. In this first wave, in addition to Noro by Hiroyuki Takei, the first volumes of series titled Killrate Chaos and Yukai Shojo will also meet readers. The collaboration between two long-standing magazines like Corocoro and Ciao once again proves how demographic boundaries are stretching in the Japanese manga industry and how unifying the horror genre can be for readers of all ages and genders.
The biggest name in the series, Hiroyuki Takei, is a figure known for his unique style in the manga world. Takei, who became legendary with Shaman King, which began in 1998 and has sold over 38 million copies, has previously worked on projects such as Ultimo and Jumbor. It is already a matter of great curiosity among fans how the artist, who generally deals with spirits, shamanism, and supernatural themes, will add depth to the horror genre with Noro. Takei's detailed drawing style and mystical storytelling make this new horror series one of the most anticipated works of the season.
So, why is this new label so important? In Japan, horror manga has always been a popular "gateway" genre, especially among young readers. CoroCiao Horror aims to present the classic horror elements of the genre with a modern narrative by combining aesthetics that appeal to both boys and girls. This move is seen as part of Shogakukan's effort to integrate its digital and physical publishing strategies. Whether these series, which are expected to bring fresh blood to the horror genre, will receive anime adaptations in the future has already started to be discussed within the community.
