Honey Lemon Soda Manga Ends After 10 Years: An Era Closes in Ribon Magazine

One of the most beloved modern classics of the shoujo world, Honey Lemon Soda, has reached the end of its long-running journey. The series, written by Mayu Murata, will conclude in the May issue of Ribon magazine, which will hit shelves in Japan on April 3rd. As this sweet story, which has been ongoing for nearly 10 years, bids farewell to its readers, the magazine management has announced that they will offer special supplements and gifts for two consecutive months to celebrate this special moment.
Starting its publication in December 2015, Honey Lemon Soda follows the developing relationship between a shy young girl named Uka Ishimori and a popular boy named Kai Miura, who draws attention with his "lemon-colored" hair. The series has been highly acclaimed not only for offering a romantic story but also for exploring themes of character development and self-confidence. With 30 volumes published to date, the manga has become one of Shueisha's most successful shoujo works, selling more than 13 million copies worldwide.
The success of the series did not remain only on paper; in 2021, it was adapted into a live-action feature film starring Raul (Snow Man) and Ai Yoshikawa. The most exciting development for fans occurred at the beginning of 2025. The official anime adaptation of Honey Lemon Soda premiered in January 2025 on Fuji TV's "+Ultra" programming block, bringing the story to a new generation of viewers. Although the end of the manga is bittersweet, the story continues to live on digital platforms thanks to the anime adaptation.
This work by Mayu Murata will be remembered as one of the productions that defined the boundaries of the modern shoujo genre. Following the final chapter, fans are eagerly waiting to see how the story of Uka and Kai will be crowned. While no official announcement has been made regarding the mangaka's next project, it is certain that the void left by Honey Lemon Soda will not be easily filled. We recommend that you do not miss the collectible special issues of Ribon magazine following the series' finale.
