Hunter x Hunter Manga Returns on June 29, Volume 39 Releases on July 3

After a long wait, fans of Hunter x Hunter finally have good news: Yoshihiro Togashi's manga will resume serialization in Shonen Jump magazine on June 29. Later that same week, Volume 39 of the series will go on sale in Japan on July 3. This will be the first batch of new chapters following the previously released chapters 401-410 in 2024.
As you may recall, Hunter x Hunter went on another long hiatus toward the end of 2024 due to Togashi's health issues. The 10 chapters released at that time (401-410) left off in the middle of the Succession War arc. Now, according to statements from Togashi's social media account, he indicated that he is ready for new chapters and that the drawing process is progressing. The official announcement was made by Shueisha on June 21.
The reason the series is so beloved goes beyond action and adventure; it also lies in deep character development and a complex story structure. Yoshihiro Togashi, also the creator of Yu Yu Hakusho, is a legend in manga. However, due to chronic back pain and other health issues, he has been able to work only at irregular intervals for years. This new return shows both that Togashi's morale is good and that he has a plan to conclude the series. Indeed, in recent months, Togashi stated that he has already finished the story in his head, but will draw it as his health permits.
So why is this return important? Hunter x Hunter is one of the best-selling manga of all time and still awaits an active anime adaptation. The 2011 anime ended after 148 episodes, just before entering the Dark Continent. New manga chapters could also pave the way for a potential anime continuation. For now, fans await chapter 411, which will be published in Jump on June 29. Hopefully, Togashi's health will allow for a longer publication period this time.
