Ink Pop Licenses noho's Manga "My Neighbor Yokai"
Ink Pop has licensed the popular Japanese manga "My Neighbor Yokai" (Tonari no Youkai-san) and brought it to readers. The series, written by author noho, is set in a peaceful town where humans and yokai live together. The manga reached a wide audience with its anime adaptation released in April 2024.
The series portrays the warm and emotional aspects of daily life in a world filled with supernatural beings. It centers on the bonds between the main character Mizu, a neko (cat yokai), and their human neighbors. noho's soft drawing style and the depth added to the characters have made the series one of the important examples of the healing (iyashikei) genre. The manga has reached 5 volumes so far in Japan, and thanks to Ink Pop, it can now be read digitally in many languages, including Turkish.
The anime adaptation of My Neighbor Yokai was produced by Studio LIDENFILMS and its first season ran for 13 episodes. The anime received full marks from critics for both its visuals and relaxing atmosphere, and was particularly compared to classics such as Mushishi and Natsume's Book of Friends. Although whether there will be a second season has not been announced yet, the manga license keeps the interest of anime fans alive.
This move by Ink Pop is part of the platform's expansion strategy targeting anime/manga enthusiasts in Turkey. The company had previously licensed popular series such as "The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses" and "My Unique Skill Makes Me OP even at Level 1". The first volume of My Neighbor Yokai is now available to read on the Ink Pop app. The translation pace for new chapters is currently planned on a weekly basis.
