Kazuhiko Shimamoto's Vampire-Idol Series "Vampidol Kon" Has Concluded

One of the most energetic and "passionate" names in the manga world, Kazuhiko Shimamoto, has concluded his latest work, Vampidol Kon (Vampire Idol Tagiru), after taking his fans on yet another thrilling journey. With the final chapter published in the 20th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine (April 15), this unique series where vampires and the idol world intersect has officially come to an end.
The series, which began in May 2025, followed the story of an idol group searching for the "true light" against the darkness of vampires who have secretly taken over the entertainment industry. The main character, Tagiru Chishio, and her group Banflame, tried to both win the hearts of their fans and deal with supernatural threats through concerts held in the depths of the Animate Theater in Ikebukuro. Blending Shimamoto's signature humor and high-paced narrative, the series will complete its run with a total of 4 volumes. The third volume of the series was released in February, and the final volume, the fourth, is scheduled to be published on May 18.
Kazuhiko Shimamoto is a true legend known for the "passionate" (netsuketsu) style he created in the manga industry. He holds a cult status, particularly with works like Aoi Honoo (Blue Blazes), which recounts his own university years and his rivalry with figures like Hideaki Anno, the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Hoero Pen, which focuses on the struggle to become a mangaka. Vampidol Kon marked the master author's return to the pages of Weekly Shonen Sunday after a long hiatus, and this short but sweet adventure once again proved how creative and energetic Shimamoto remains.
So, what's next for Shimamoto's fans? The master mangaka is still continuing his Aoi Honoo series in Gessan magazine. With the conclusion of Vampidol Kon, it is a matter of curiosity whether the artist is making room for new projects or focusing on his existing series. However, one thing is certain: every work from Shimamoto's pen will continue to instill pure passion and endless determination in the reader. If you haven't checked out this series yet, this 4-volume short marathon could be a great opportunity to enter the world of Shimamoto!
