Live-Action Wandance Film Announces Character Dance Supervisors and Music
Exciting new details have been shared for the Wandance live-action film. The production team announced the dance supervisors who will be responsible for the main characters' dance scenes and the music artists featured in the film. According to the announcement made on August 27, 2026, expert professional dancers and choreographers have been assigned for each main character.
According to the announcement, the film's dance supervisor lineup is quite ambitious: Runa Miura, KANU, akihic☆彡, KEIN, and SEIYA. All five are recognized names in Japan's street dance and hip-hop scene, with active careers as both dancers and choreographers. Each will directly oversee the dance style, movements, and stage performance of one of the main characters in the film. This approach also signals that the characters' dances will be distinct from one another and reflect their personalities. The music artists and songs to be used were also announced alongside the film, but the detailed list has not yet been fully shared.
For those unfamiliar, Wandance is a youth drama written and illustrated by Coffee, centered on a passion for dance. The series has been published in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine since January 2019 and has released 13 volumes so far. The story follows high school student Kaboku Kotani, who struggles to express himself due to a stutter, and becomes captivated by hip-hop dance after watching the charismatic and free-spirited dancer Hikari Wanda in the school's dance club. The manga, which speaks through body language and rhythm rather than dialogue, has received great praise for its fluid and dynamic artwork in dance scenes and was nominated for the Manga Taisho award in 2023.
The live-action adaptation is seen as one of the most ambitious projects in the recent surge of dance-themed productions in Japan. As we have seen with previous works such as HiGH&LOW and Blue Giant, including professional dancers as supervisors is a critical move for the film's authenticity.
