New Manga from the Artist of Log Horizon: First Volume of Muteki no Ansatsu Madoushi Released!

An exciting collaboration in the manga world has borne fruit! The first volume of the manga Muteki no Ansatsu Madoushi, Last Boss Musume to Tabi o Suru (The Invincible Assassin Mage, Traveling with the Last Boss's Daughter), illustrated by the legendary Kazuhiro Hara of the Log Horizon series, was released in Japan on April 15th under the TO Books label. Adapted from Manimani Ononata's popular light novel series, this new adventure has managed to land on the radar of fantasy lovers with both its visual quality and experienced staff.
The names behind the series form a true "dream team." Kazuhiro Hara, who sits in the artist's chair, is known for his detailed world-building and character designs in Log Horizon, while the story composition is handled by Yu Yagami, the creator of cult works like Those Who Hunt Elves. The author of the original story, Manimani Ononata, is a competent name in the fantasy genre, previously known for works such as Reincarnated as a 15-Year-Old Queen. The coming together of this trio promises a deep narrative that takes the series far beyond an ordinary adaptation.
The story revolves around Brad Lester, who was once known as the world's most powerful mage but began living as an ordinary laborer after the tragic death of his daughter. Brad's peaceful life is turned upside down when his wife is murdered by a dark organization called the "World Peace Promotion Association." Setting out with a fire of revenge, Brad encounters an unexpected sight when he meets the organization's leader, Valburga: the terrifying leader before him has turned into a little girl who has lost her memory. Facing the painful memories of his own daughter, Brad decides to help his archenemy regain her memory, and the duo sets out on a long journey from the Olford Ancient Magic Research Institute to the snow-covered village of Lutz.
This new series is perfect for readers who especially love the "strong main character and child companion" (child-raising fantasy) theme. When Kazuhiro Hara's unique, clean, and dynamic drawing style combines with Yu Yagami's experienced narrative skills, the result is a work that is both emotional and action-packed. For fans of the genre, this first volume is just the beginning; as there is a general expectation in the industry that the series may receive an anime adaptation in the future. If you miss the aesthetics of Log Horizon and classic fantasy adventures, you should definitely give this series a chance!
