New Manga from Marie Hatori: "Matomo ni Dekinai Watashitachi" Meets Readers with Its First Volume

Marie Hatori, one of the beloved names in the manga world, has hit the shelves with her new series Matomo ni Dekinai Watashitachi (We Who Can't Do It Right). Released in Japan on May 11, 2026, the work focuses on the unexpected roommate relationship between two women living on the fringes of modern society. Serialized in Shonengahosha's Young Comic magazine, the series has already managed to attract the attention of readers with its character dynamics.
The story revolves around two polar opposite main characters, Rin and Mone. Rin is an introverted woman who struggles to adapt to social life due to her extreme meticulousness and obsession with cleanliness (mysophobia). On the other hand, Mone is an extroverted character who makes a living through "papa-katsu" (young women spending time with older men in exchange for financial support), leading a life outside of societal expectations. Marie Hatori handles the struggle of these two "troubled" characters to live under the same roof with both a humorous and thought-provoking tone.
Author Marie Hatori was previously known for works such as Joshikousei to Kekkon shita node Bakuhatsu shimasu. and Kenja Time dake Yuusha. The author, who generally blends absurd comedy with the realities of daily life, maintains a similar tone in this new series. In particular, addressing modern social issues in Japan (such as the papa-katsu culture and obsessive-compulsive disorders) elevates the manga from being just a comedy work to a contemporary social critique. The first volume of the series was offered to readers with a price tag of 780 Yen (excluding tax).
