Mashimesa Emoto’s Beloved Novel Enters the Manga World: "Goodbye, Horrible Fiancé, Hello, Fun Magic School Life!" Has Begun

In the world of manga and light novels, the themes of "terrible fiancé" and "a fresh start" have always been popular. One of the newest and most notable examples of this genre, Goodbye, Horrible Fiancé, Hello, Fun Magic School Life! (Konyakusha o Sutetara, Tanoshii Mahō Gakkō no Seikatsu ga Matteimashita!) by Mashimesa Emoto, has finally received a manga adaptation. This new series, which began in the June issue of Square Enix’s popular magazine Monthly Shonen Gangan on May 14, 2026, features illustrations by the talented artist Odayaka.
Our story revolves around Misha von Ritual, the daughter of a viscount. Misha makes a radical decision to get rid of her terrible fiancé, who cheated on her and even got her cousin pregnant. After giving her fiancé the lesson (and a solid punch!) he deserves, she follows her dreams and enrolls in a magic school. However, Misha has a secret: she has memories of her past life in Japan and remembers the magic school in this new world from a novel series she once read. In this second chance, Misha is awaited not only by fascinating classes but also by a cute slime spirit and brand-new friendships.
Author Mashimesa Emoto is a name who has already proven how successful they are in the fantasy genre with works such as Expedition Cooking with the Enoch Royal Knights and I Don't Want to Be the Dragon Duke's Maid!. Illustrator Odayaka, on the other hand, is known for their elegant style that reflects the emotional depth of characters. This collaboration between the two has been met with great excitement by fans of the original novel. Cross Infinite World has acquired the English publishing rights for both the novel and manga formats of the series.
