Nagisa Furuya's Beloved BL Manga "The Summer of You" Gets a Live-Action Series!

This summer is set to be an exciting one for fans of Nagisa Furuya! TV Tokyo officially announced on Saturday that the beloved Boys-Love (BL) manga The Summer of You (Kimi wa Natsu no Naka) will be adapted into a live-action series. According to the announcement, the series will premiere early on the U-NEXT platform in Japan on June 24, 2026. Its television broadcast debut will follow on July 1, 2026, on the TV Tokyo channel, airing in the Wednesday night 24:30 time slot.
The story centers on two high school students, Wataru and Chiharu, who grow closer through their shared passion for cinema. As they embark on a "film pilgrimage" during summer vacation to visit the locations where their favorite movies were filmed, the bond between them gradually evolves into a nostalgic and emotional romance. The original manga covers a broad timeline, spanning not just their high school years, but also their transition to university and the maturation of their relationship as they step into adulthood. In this regard, the series promises viewers a warm and intimate coming-of-age story that unfolds over the years.
The creator of the work, Nagisa Furuya, is a highly respected name in the BL world. Furuya, who began her career in dōjinshi (amateur drawing) circles and made her professional debut in 2014 with Number Call, is particularly known for her character depth and cinematic storytelling style. Following the success of the first volume, the The Summer of You series expanded with The Summer with You (Kimi to Natsu no Naka) and subsequent sequels. The author also has other popular works such as The Two Lions and My Ultramarine Sky. Fans are eager to see if the series will capture that unique "soft" atmosphere found in Furuya's manga.
