A New Culinary Stop from My Dear Detective Creator Natsumi Ito: Bungō no Oyatsu Begins!

Natsumi Ito, one of the beloved names in the manga world, is returning with a new project that will excite her fans. Having achieved great success with the My Dear Detective: Mitsuko's Case Files series, the artist is now setting her sights on the kitchen of the literary world. The new series, titled Bungō no Oyatsu (Snacks of Literary Giants), will meet readers on May 29 on Futabasha's Web Action platform.
The story of the new series offers an entertaining glimpse into the kitchen of the publishing world. The story revolves around Tsubame, a rookie editor who is very new to the job. Tsubame begins using delicious snacks as a form of "bribery" to convince the author Uguisudani, who is known for constantly missing deadlines and having an extreme fondness for sweets, to finish his work. This production, where literature and gastronomy are intertwined, will come to life with Natsumi Ito's unique, detailed drawing style.
Natsumi Ito was previously known for the highly acclaimed My Dear Detective: Mitsuko's Case Files (Kimi wa Nazotoki no Masheri), which was published between 2021 and 2025. Set in 1920s and 30s Japan, that series told the story of Mitsuko Hoshino, one of the country's first female detectives, as she challenged gender roles. This series, which was also brought to English by Seven Seas Entertainment and completed in 9 volumes, proved Ito's mastery in creating historical atmospheres and character depth.
The "literary figure" (bungō) theme, which has become popular in Japanese pop culture through series like Bungo Stray Dogs, is handled this time through a more human and intimate perspective—namely, food culture—rather than supernatural powers. Whether Natsumi Ito's new series will include details inspired by the tastes of real-life famous authors has already become a subject of curiosity among fans. If you are looking for both a good story and appetizing illustrations, don't forget to mark May 29 on your calendars!
