A New Era in the Baki Series: Doppo Orochi Gets His Own Gourmet Manga!

We have some very interesting and exciting news for Baki fans! One of the most charismatic figures of the legendary fighting series, Doppo Orochi, is setting aside his fists and picking up chopsticks this time. The new spin-off manga, Baki Gaiden Doppo: Hitori Nomi Kui Aruki, written by Takaaki Hayashi, begins its publication in May.
This new series will focus on the solo dining and drinking adventures of Doppo Orochi, known by the nickname 'God of War'. Moving away from the tense and harsh atmosphere of the fighting world, this production will offer readers the opportunity to discover more human and everyday aspects of Doppo. The 'gourmet manga' trend, which has been on the rise in Japan in recent years, thus meets one of the toughest characters in the Baki universe.
The Baki (Grappler Baki) universe, created by Keisuke Itagaki, has been considered one of the most iconic works of the martial arts genre since 1991. Doppo Orochi, as the founder of the Shinshinkai Karate school and a living legend, is among the most established figures in the series. The fact that the character, whose past and fighting philosophy have been shed light on through various spin-offs like Baki Gaiden: Kenjin, will now appear as a food critic promises an entertaining change in the tone of the series.
So, why is this manga attracting so much attention? Although the Baki series is generally known for overly muscular bodies and bloody fights, the disciplined lifestyles and eating rituals of the characters have always attracted the interest of fans. Seeing the food preferences of a master like Doppo and the world of flavor through the eyes of a warrior will add a different depth to the universe. The series, which will come to life with Takaaki Hayashi's drawings, will likely meet readers in magazines under Akita Shoten. Let's see if the 'God of War' can bring his rivals to their knees in the culinary world as well!
