New Baseball Manga "You Are Slugger" Begins Serialization: A Clumsy Star's Dream of the Professional League

Kodansha's popular digital platform Comic DAYS has begun hosting a new series that will excite sports enthusiasts. Debuting on April 13, You Are Slugger (ゆーあーすらっがー) aims to bring a fresh and fun breath of air to the world of baseball. Bearing the signatures of writer Nametake and artist Roka Mano, this production tells the story of a young girl's determination to become a professional baseball player, despite being surprisingly clumsy in her daily life.
At the center of the story is high school student Wako Uonuma. Although Wako is a genius "slugger" capable of massive hits when she picks up a bat, her life off the field is pure chaos. Possessing a personality described in Japanese as "ponkotsu"—meaning quite clumsy and naive—Wako finds herself in funny situations even during the simplest daily tasks. She is supported on this challenging yet inspiring journey by her childhood friend Taiji and those around her.
The creative team behind the series consists of notable names in the manga world. Artist Roka Mano is known for works such as Cupid no Hatsukoi and has achieved success at the prestigious Chiba Tetsuya Award. Writer Nametake brings their experience with character dynamics and youth stories to this new series. The first chapter of the manga, which will be updated every other Monday on the Comic DAYS platform, has been made available for free to help readers get acquainted with the series.
Considering that baseball is a cultural phenomenon in Japan and interest in women's baseball is growing every day, You Are Slugger has begun its publication at a strategic time. Sports manga are usually built on discipline and flawless talent; however, this series breaks the mold slightly by focusing on a clumsy character trying to enter the professional leagues. How Wako will turn into a real star by learning from her mistakes will continue to be a subject of curiosity for both sports and comedy fans.
