The Story of a Man Who Thinks He Became a Villain in a World of Skewed Gender Balance: New Manga 'Nanohi Bug' Launches on Piccoma

One of Japan's leading digital manga platforms, Piccoma, introduced a new series to readers as of June 10, 2024: 『男女比バグっているのに悪役転生だと思い込んでいる奴』 (abbreviated as Nanohi Bug). The series is written by Yōha Yui and illustrated by Ponzu Inu Kimera, and has garnered great interest with its first chapter.

The story is set in a world where the gender balance is completely skewed. In this universe where men are nearly extinct, our protagonist suddenly believes he has been reincarnated as a “villain”. But things are not as they seem – in fact, we are watching a romantic comedy about a normal man's misunderstandings in this world full of oddities. Described as a “gender-reversed romantic comedy”, the series stands out as the latest example of the “chastity reversal” (貞操逆転) subgenre.

According to the official announcement, Nanohi Bug began its pre-release exclusively on Piccoma on June 10. Starting July 15, it will be gradually released on all other major digital bookstores in Japan (Kindle, BookLive, Cmoa, Rakuten Kobo, etc.). The series is said to continue with regular chapter releases.

Yōha Yui has previously worked as a writer on works such as “Kuro no Senki” and “Isekai de Mofumofu Nadenade”. Illustrator Ponzu Inu Kimera is known for character designs shared on social media; this is their first long-running series. The duo have not collaborated on a project before. Piccoma has previously featured popular series with similar themes such as “Otome Game no Heroine de Saikyou Survival”.

This genre has a large fanbase especially outside Japan. Stories set in worlds where women outnumber men and men are rare have been frequently explored in both manga and light novels in recent years. What makes Nanohi Bug different is that the protagonist thinks he is the villain of an isekai (otherworld) story and creates comedy through this misconception.

The first chapter of the series is available to read on Piccoma. No official English or Turkish translation has been announced yet, but given the genre's popularity, the series is expected to appear on international platforms as well. With new chapters coming in the coming weeks, manga fans will get a closer look at this entertaining comedy of misunderstandings.
