New One-Shot Manga from “Record of Lodoss War” Creator Mizuno Ryo: “Elder Fall”

The master author known for the “Record of Lodoss War” series, Mizuno Ryo, has once again joined forces with “Dungeon Elf” artist River Sloan to publish a new one-shot manga. This work, titled “Elder Fall”, was released in the 12th issue of Young Animal magazine, published in Japan on June 12, 2025. It has also been made available for free on the magazine's website.
The story, penned by Mizuno Ryo, centers on the drama of the last remaining member of an elf race. “Elder Fall” deals with the survival struggle of the last representative of a lost civilization in a fantasy world and the mysterious events encountered on this journey. Supported by River Sloan's detailed and atmospheric illustrations, this one-shot offers an unmissable read, especially for those interested in elf mythology and epic fantasy.
Since the late 1980s, Mizuno Ryo has become one of the most important figures in Japanese fantasy literature with the “Record of Lodoss War” novel series and anime adaptations. The series' contributions to RPG culture and its classic storytelling continue to inspire many works even today. River Sloan is known for the “Dungeon Elf” manga, which also features an elf character in the lead role, so the duo's reunion did not come as a surprise to fans.
One-shot mangas often have the potential to develop into a series or are published to introduce a specific world. Although “Elder Fall” is currently an independent work, it is known that both Mizuno Ryo and River Sloan are actively working on new projects. If this one-shot receives the expected attention, the possibility of it turning into a series in the coming months is not ruled out. For now, fans can enjoy this short but impressive story, which they can read for free on Young Animal Web.
