A New Romantic Comedy in Monthly Shonen Ace: "Ikemen Oneesan wa So-yu Me de Miraretai" Has Begun!

One of the beloved names in the manga world, Youha, has returned with a new project that will excite readers. In the June issue of KADOKAWA's popular magazine Monthly Shonen Ace, released on April 24th, the new manga series titled Ikemen Oneesan wa So-yu Me de Miraretai (The Handsome Older Sister Wants to Be Seen That Way) has officially begun its publication. The series focuses on a young girl with a "handsome" and cool image and her efforts to break this image while dealing with the romantic feelings she has for her younger childhood friend.
At the center of the story is a main character who is always seen by those around her as "cool" and having a "masculine charisma." However, this "handsome" older sister has one goal: to make her younger childhood friend see her not just as a protective figure, but as a romantic partner. This romantic comedy production aims to bring a fresh breath to the "ikemen" (handsome/charismatic) female character trend, which has become popular in recent years and is known through series like Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie.
The writer and artist of the series, Youha, is actually no stranger to the manga world. They previously gained a large fan base with the Danchigai series, which focuses on the daily lives of five siblings and even has a short-episode anime adaptation. Youha's success in character design and sincere storytelling style signal that this new series could become popular in a short time. Its inclusion in a magazine like Monthly Shonen Ace, which has hosted giant names such as Neon Genesis Evangelion and Nichijou, increases expectations for the series.
This new series seems to be a must-read for readers who especially love the "childhood friend" and "oneesan" (older sister figure) themes. The contrast between the character's outward appearance and her inner romantic desires will allow the series to establish a balance of humor and sentimentality. The manga, which received positive reactions in Japan with its first chapter, is expected to have collected volumes (tankobon) released in the future and find a place on international platforms.
