Nippon Sangoku: The Three Nations of the Crimson Sun Manga Goes on Hiatus Due to Author's Health Issues

Sad news has arrived for the manga Nippon Sangoku: The Three Nations of the Crimson Sun. The series has been suspended indefinitely due to health issues of author Ikka Matsuki. According to Anime News Network, Matsuki is currently suffering from steroid withdrawal syndrome and is undergoing treatment.
The chapter expected to be published this month had been delayed. In an official statement, it was announced that the author is taking a break until fully recovered. Steroid withdrawal syndrome is a serious condition that occurs when long-term corticosteroid use is suddenly stopped or the dosage is reduced. It can cause fatigue, muscle pain, mood changes, and even life-threatening symptoms.
Nippon Sangoku: The Three Nations of the Crimson Sun has an alternate history setting. The series blends the Sengoku period of Japan with fantastical elements, telling the struggle of three major clans (Oda, Tokugawa, Toyotomi). Mangaka Ikka Matsuki had previously worked on similar historical-fantasy works and was particularly noted for character designs. The series started in Monthly Shonen Gangan in 2022 and quickly gained a loyal readership.
Unfortunately, such health issues are common in the manga industry. Long working hours and the pressure of writing and drawing affect many mangakas' physical and mental health. Although news of a hiatus saddens fans, it is clear this break is necessary for the author to fully recover. In a statement on his social media account, Matsuki said, "I apologize to the readers; I will do my best to return stronger as soon as possible."
Currently, there is no clear date for the manga's return. However, fans can reread past chapters to ease their longing while waiting for Matsuki to recover. Such health breaks have happened to big names in the industry like Yoshihiro Togashi (Hunter x Hunter) and Kentaro Miura (Berserk). We hope Matsuki recovers soon and the story of Nippon Sangoku continues from where it left off.
