Omoi Brings Shinji Wada's Sukeban Deka Manga to Digital Platforms This Fall

Digital manga publisher Omoi has announced that it will exclusively release Shinji Wada's cult series Sukeban Deka on digital platforms this fall. According to the statement reported by Anime News Network, the company will add more than 50 Kodansha series to its catalog during the same period, including works such as After the Rain, Dororo, Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun, and Paradise Kiss.

First published in 1975 in the magazine Hana to Yume, Sukeban Deka tells the story of Asamiya Saki, a young "sukeban" who appears to be a typical high school student during the day but secretly fights crime. Saki is a kind of rebellious female detective who dispenses justice using a steel yoyo. Shinji Wada's series is considered one of the most original works of its era, both for pushing the boundaries of the shōjo genre and for its strong female character. Adapted into multiple live-action dramas and films in the 1980s and an anime OVA in 1991, the title is now regarded as a cult cornerstone of popular culture.
