Parasyte Manga Exhibition Opens in Yokohama: An Unforgettable Experience with Original Drawings and Special Sound Effects

Hitoshi Iwaaki's Parasyte (Kiseijuu) manga, published between 1988 and 1995 and regarded as a masterpiece of the horror-thriller genre, is now making headlines with an exhibition that brings fans together with original drawings. The Parasyte Exhibition (寄生獣展) opened its doors on June 6, 2025, at the YOKOHAMA COAST venue in Kanagawa Prefecture. A press preview was held the day before, on June 5, where details of the exhibition were shared for the first time.
The exhibition not only offers visitors a static collection of drawings but also creates an atmosphere that appeals to the senses. The original hand-drawn illustrations are displayed accompanied by live sound effects (e.g., the eerie sounds of parasites entering bodies) that reflect the spirit of the era in which they were created. Thus, fans can relive Shinichi Midorikawa's struggle with the parasite Migi, which takes over his right arm. Furthermore, one of the most striking sections of the exhibition is a special area dedicated to the manga's “graphically violent” scenes. In this area, the controversial, bloody, and harsh drawings from that period can be viewed in their original form.
Hitoshi Iwaaki's landmark work Parasyte has reached millions of readers not only in Japan but also worldwide. The manga won the Kodansha Manga Award in 1993 and gained great popularity through its anime adaptation by Madhouse in 2014-2015. In Turkey, the series published by Gerekli Şeyler and other publishers remains popular, especially for its exploration of human-nature relationships and existential questions. This exhibition once again showcases the enduring legacy of the series over 30 years.
The exhibition also includes a replica of the mangaka's desk, notes from the period, and rare concept designs. This event at YOKOHAMA COAST is likely to continue throughout the summer and may then travel to other cities in Japan. If you find yourself in Yokohama, we recommend not missing this unique experience — and special Parasyte-themed merchandise is available at the exhibition entrance!
