Someone Hertz Volume 3 Released: Special Support from Gege Akutami and 300,000 Sales Milestone!

One of the most notable works in the recent period of Weekly Shonen Jump, Someone Hertz (さむわんへるつ), achieved great success with its 3rd volume released on May 1st. The series, written by Ei Yamano, has proven its worth by exceeding a total circulation of 300,000 copies just by its third volume. To celebrate this important milestone, a familiar name stepped onto the stage: Gege Akutami, the world-famous creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, shared a special illustration and a message of support for the series.
In the drawing prepared for the new volume, Gege Akutami depicted one of the series' main characters, Kurage Mizuo, in their own unique style. The illustration included a playful nod to the theme of Kurage's radio pseudonym, "Unagi Potato." Akutami also expressed their admiration for the series by adding the note, "This is true radio passion!" (Den-Den Passion). Such "senpai" support from industry giants is generally accepted as a sign that the series will open doors to much greater success and a potential anime adaptation in the future.
So, why is Someone Hertz so beloved? The story revolves around the shared passion for a late-night comedy radio program between the serious student Mimei Fukumori and their mysterious classmate Kurage Mizuo. Centering on Japan's deep-rooted radio culture and the tradition of "postcard craftsmanship" (listeners who send jokes to the radio), the manga brings a fresh breath of air to the romantic comedy genre. Following the award won for their one-shot work published on the Shonen Jump+ platform in 2022, Ei Yamano managed to bring this concept to the weekly magazine in 2025.
The momentum the series has gained is not limited to sales figures; Someone Hertz also recently held an official collaboration with Japan's legendary radio program All Night Nippon. Despite being so closely tied to local culture, the sincere dialogue and sense of humor between the characters have made the series popular on international platforms as well. Crossing the 300,000 copy mark this early shows that Ei Yamano has solidified their place among the new generation of Shonen Jump stars. Fans are already eagerly awaiting what the next big announcement for the series will be.
