The Bateren Tales Returns: Date Set for the Final Arc!

There is exciting news of a comeback in the manga world! The Bateren Tales (Bateren Kaidan), written by Yū Miki and published on Shueisha's digital platform Shonen Jump+, is returning to the scene after a short silence. The series, which has been on hiatus since February 6, 2026, will continue where it left off with a new chapter to be published on May 22nd. However, this return also signals that the end of the story is approaching, as the manga will officially enter its final arc with its return.
The series creator Yū Miki previously stated in social media announcements that this break was taken to plan the final chapters of the story and make the necessary preparations. While thanking readers for their patience, Miki also noted that The Bateren Tales was not planned as a very long series from the very beginning. After this approximately three-month preparation process, fans are now eagerly waiting to see how this story, set in the dark and mysterious atmosphere of the Edo period, will conclude.
The Bateren Tales is set in 16th-century Japan, a time when Christianity was banned and foreign missionaries known as "Bateren" were associated with mysterious powers. Blending historical realities with supernatural horror and drama elements, the series stands out especially with Yū Miki's unique drawing style. Miki, who is known for works like Cyborg Roggy and has worked as an assistant on popular series like Blue Flag (Ao no Flag), managed to surprise readers by choosing a much darker and more atmospheric narrative in this work.
Simultaneously with the manga's return, the date for the series' first physical volume (tankōbon) release has also been clarified. stron
