The King of the Dead at the Dark Palace Gets a Manga Adaptation: Great News for Fans!

One of the most notable works in the dark fantasy world, The King of the Dead at the Dark Palace (known in Japanese as Kuraki Kyuuden no Shisha no Ou), is finally stepping into the world of manga. The manga adaptation of the popular light novel series written by Tsukikage will be illustrated by the talented artist Meguri. The first chapter of the new series is scheduled to be released to readers this April.
Our story centers on End, a young man who, in hopes of recovering from a relentless illness, is subjected to the experiments of a necromancer and returns to life as a "ghoul." However, End refuses to be an ordinary zombie bowing to his master's commands. His struggle for freedom in the depths of a dark palace to preserve his own will and humanity stands out as one of the key features that distinguishes the series from others in the genre.
The series' author, Tsukikage, is no stranger to the anime and manga world. He has previously penned successful works such as the highly acclaimed Let This Grieving Soul Retire! and Defeating the Demon Lord's a Cinch (If You've Got a Ringer). While the original light novel series is published under the Overlap Bunko label with illustrations by Merontomari, fans are now eagerly anticipating how this gloomy and impressive atmosphere will be visualized through Meguri's detailed art style.
The dark fantasy genre has gained immense global popularity, especially following the success of works like Overlord and Solo Leveling. The King of the Dead at the Dark Palace offers a breath of fresh air to fans of the genre by focusing on an anti-hero's quest for survival and identity rather than a classic heroic tale. The manga chapters are expected to be published digitally in Japan via the Comic Gardo platform and are anticipated to reach international platforms shortly thereafter.
