New Manga from Tomohiro Yagi: "Hitoner" Debuts on Shonen Jump+ Platform

Talented manga artist Tomohiro Yagi has returned after a long hiatus with his new series Hitoner (Hitonā). The series, which began serialization on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, on Shueisha's digital platform Shonen Jump+, has been met with great excitement by the author's fans. Known for previous works such as Iron Knight and Red Sprite, Yagi blends science fiction and fantasy elements with his unique style in this new project.
Hitoner is based on a popular one-shot story originally published on February 15, 2024, which reached approximately 2 million (1,950,000) views in a short time. The title of the series is a portmanteau of the Japanese word "Hito" (meaning human) and "Kemoner" (a term for fans of anthropomorphic animals). The story follows a human from Earth who lands on an isolated planet inhabited solely by humanoid animals called "Kemo." The astonishment of this society upon encountering a human for the first time and the cultural interaction between the two species lie at the heart of the events.
Author Tomohiro Yagi is known in the industry for his detailed world-building and dynamic art style. His 16-chapter series Iron Knight, published in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2014, and the 14-chapter Red Sprite in 2016, garnered a loyal fanbase despite their short runs. Hitoner marks Yagi's third major serialization project. Shueisha officials stated that the immense success of the one-shot version played a key role in its development into a full-time series.
The new series is not limited to Japan; it has been made available to global readers simultaneously in English, Spanish, and Thai via Manga Plus. The fact that the Shonen Jump+ platform has hosted massive hits like Spy x Family and Kaiju No. 8 in recent years raises expectations for Hitoner as well. The weekly manga is expected to be a new turning point in Yagi's career, exploring cross-species interaction with a blend of humor and drama.
