Two New Manga Series Start in Young Ace July Issue: "WASTED CHEF" Adaptation and Sakura Roku's New Work

KADOKAWA's popular magazine Young Ace's July issue hit shelves on June 4, bringing with it the excitement of two new manga series. The first is "Osananajimi wo Shiawase ni Suru made Shinenai!!" (I Can't Die Until I Make My Childhood Friend Happy!!) from the pen of Sakura Roku, creator of the beloved romantic comedy series "Busu ni Hanataba wo." (Buket to the Ugly). The other is a manga adaptation of "WASTED CHEF" based on the theatrical anime film of the same name directed by Takayuki Hirao (Kara no Kyoukai, The Journey).
Sakura Roku previously captured a wide readership with "Busu ni Hanataba wo.", and the series' 2022 anime adaptation was also very well received. Her new series "Osananajimi wo Shiawase ni Suru made Shinenai!!", as the name suggests, focuses on a childhood friend and will likely be a sweet and emotional romantic comedy. Although no detailed summary of the series has been released yet, we expect to see the warm dialogues and comedic situations that have become Sakura Roku's signature in this new project as well.
The other new series, the "WASTED CHEF" manga adaptation, has a completely different flavor. The original anime film tells the story of a chef's struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic world and his passion for cooking. It is a matter of curiosity how director Takayuki Hirao's visual storytelling will be transferred to the manga format. While no information has yet been released on who is writing and drawing the manga adaptation, it is certain that fans of the film's atmosphere and characters will be interested.
The simultaneous launch of these two new series once again demonstrates Young Ace's strategy of appealing to readers of different genres. While fans of "Busu ni Hanataba wo." eagerly await Sakura Roku's new work, anime fans will also want to give the "WASTED CHEF" adaptation a chance. Both series can be followed on KADOKAWA's digital platforms and in bookstores. More details and previews about the series are expected in upcoming issues; a full summer for manga fans begins!
