The First Volume of Watashi no Kawaii, Kawaisou na Otto Manga Released: A Great Love for a "Pitiful" Husband

Bringing a fresh breath to the "villainess" and "devoted wife" themes that have recently become popular in the manga world, the first volume of the Watashi no Kawaii, Kawaisou na Otto (My Cute, Pitiful Husband) series hit shelves in Japan on May 14th. Published under the Briz Comics label by Kill Time Communication, this volume turns the story, adapted from Keita Mame's original light novel, into a visual feast. The illustrations for the series are handled by the talented artist Inden.
At the center of the story is Chocolat (Chocolatte Benoit), the daughter of a Count who is known from the outside as a "seductive villainess" but is actually full of love. Chocolat marries Alan Suzette, who comes from a prestigious family and whom she fell in love with at first sight at a party. However, on their wedding night, Alan shocks her by coldly saying, "I already have someone I love, I will never love you." This moment, which would normally be the beginning of a drama, turns into a completely different, obsessive love story as Chocolat finds her husband "so pathetic, so tragic, and so cute."
Watashi no Kawaii, Kawaisou na Otto continues to be serialized in the Comic Brise magazine in Japan. The original author Keita Mame succeeds in surprising the reader by establishing character dynamics in an unconventional way. Artist Inden, on the other hand, reflects Chocolat's desire to spoil her husband and Alan's "pathetic" states, unaware of his own charm, with an aesthetic language. The series has quickly become a center of attention among readers who especially enjoy the Josei and romance genres.
