From a Failed First Night to a Royal Decree: "Watashitachi wa Dekitemasen!" Manga Begins

In the world of manga, the themes of "second chances" and "fake marriages" have always been popular, but the new series that began serialization on the COMIC Polaris platform on May 14th takes a humorous and unconventional approach to these tropes. The manga, originally titled Watashitachi wa Dekitemasen! ~Shoya Shippai shita Moto Konyakusha to Oumeikon de Yarinaoshi~ (We Haven't Done It Yet! ~Starting Over with My Former Fiancé Who Failed on Our First Night by Royal Decree~), opens the doors to a love story that will both embarrass and amuse readers.
At the center of the story is Cynthia, a former countess whose family has gone bankrupt. Cynthia, who spends her days as a disciplined civil servant working in the Crown Prince's office, sees her life turned upside down by an unexpected order from the Prince himself. The Prince commands Cynthia to enter into a "fake marriage" with her former fiancé, Ignas. However, the pair shares a history involving a "failed first night" years ago, which caused their engagement to break off and remains a traumatically funny memory for both of them.
The names behind the series are no strangers to the romantic comedy genre. The story's author, Machibari, is known for popular works such as Konyakusha to Kenka bakari shite itara, Itsu no Manika Dekiai sarete imashita and is skilled at handling tension and emotional development between characters. Yurie Nain, who is responsible for the illustrations, successfully conveys the shyness and romantic moments experienced by the characters with the elegant and expressive style previously seen in projects like Uso-kon Roman.
This new series is part of the "adult-oriented but lighthearted" romantic comedy trend that has been on the rise on digital manga platforms in recent years.
