Yowamushi Pedal Reaches Volume 100: Huge Celebration Begins for the Legendary Series

We are witnessing a historic moment in the world of sports manga! Yowamushi Pedal, which has been running continuously since 2008 and has made cycling a beloved sport for millions, has achieved an incredible milestone by crossing the 100-volume mark. Released on shelves in Japan on May 8, 2026, the 100th volume honored the series as the first manga in the history of Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine to reach this number under a single title, without being split or changing its name.
To celebrate this massive milestone, the series creator Wataru Watanabe is organizing a series of special events to meet with fans. The first of these events, titled "Yowamushi Pedal 100th Volume Achievement Thank You Night!", will be held on June 20 at 109 Cinemas Kiba in Tokyo. The second major gathering will take place on August 22 in Kobe. At these events, Watanabe will share his memories of the series' 18-year journey and hold special reading sessions for fans.
Yowamushi Pedal is considered not just a manga, but a phenomenon that revitalized cycling culture in Japan. The story follows Sakamichi Onoda, an anime and gaming enthusiast (otaku) high school student, who is discovered while climbing steep hills on an ordinary city bike and joins the Sohoku High School cycling team. Having sold over 32 million copies worldwide to date, the series has become a massive franchise with a 5-season anime adaptation, live-action films, and stage plays.
Behind the success and realism of the series lies the personal passion of author Wataru Watanabe. An active cyclist himself, Watanabe is part of a cycling team in real life called Team Zenko.
