Covet the Scholar, Princess Webtoon Is Becoming a Series: Famous Names in Talks for Lead Roles!

Exciting news has arrived from the world of webtoons! KakaoPage's beloved historical romance series Covet the Scholar, Princess (Gongju, Seonbireul Tamhada) is officially being adapted into a live-action series. According to reports dated April 19, 2026, it has been reported that discussions have begun with South Korea's beloved actors Yoo Yeon-seok and Lee Se-young for the lead roles, and both are reportedly viewing the offer positively. If the deals are finalized, this project will mark the first time the duo has worked together.
The series follows the struggle of Princess Eun-myeong, who grew up in the isolated environment of palace life, to marry the scholar Kim Seoyul, whom she fell in love with at first sight. However, this story is not just about sweet romance; set in an atmosphere reminiscent of the Joseon era, the production also centers on deep palace intrigues, political drama, and deep-rooted family conflicts. Lee Se-young is expected to bring to life the curious and proactive princess character, while Yoo Yeon-seok is expected to play the noble Seoyul, who maintains his distance despite the princess's interest.
The original story of the series belongs to the famous author Dalseul, who has previously created popular works such as Princess Pretends to be Crazy and Flirting with the Villain's Dad. Dalseul's character depth and immersive plot brought the webtoon to a large fan base on KakaoPage. The global success of webtoon adaptations like Business Proposal and The King's Affection in recent years proves once again how much potential such projects have.
For fans, this adaptation is of great importance, especially as it marks the return of Lee Se-young (The Red Sleeve), known for her success in historical dramas, to this genre. Although an official release date has not yet been announced, it is known that negotiations for the series' broadcasting rights and distribution are ongoing. With production expected to begin and the cast to be finalized in the coming months, we may witness one of the most talked-about K-Dramas of 2026.
