Lumine Webtoon Becomes an Animated Series: The 550 Million View Series Is Coming to Screens

The long-awaited good news for Lumine, one of the most beloved fantasy series in the webtoon world, has finally arrived! According to the announcement made at the Annecy International Animation Film Market (MIFA), Webtoon Productions and the French animation studio OuiDo! Productions have joined forces for an animated adaptation of the series. This massive production, which reached over 550 million views during its run from 2017 to 2024, will now come to life on screen.
Our story follows the intersection of the paths of Lumine, an outcast werewolf, and Kody, an antisocial and mysterious witch. Lumine is hired as a bodyguard for Kody, whom he meets by chance, and the duo finds themselves in the middle of dangerous secrets and supernatural events. The series' creator, Emma Krogell, tells the story of how werewolves are rare and powerful beings thought to be extinct in this universe, while also highlighting the humorous and emotional struggles our hero Lumine faces in controlling his powers (and occasionally turning into a cute dog).
The project is led by a very experienced name. Bryan Q. Miller, known for productions such as Smallville and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, will serve as the showrunner and co-writer of the animation. In the producer's chair are Webtoon Productions President David Madden and OuiDo! Productions CEO Sandrine Nguyen. As a studio that has previously delivered globally successful projects like Sonic Boom and Alvin and the Chipmunks, OuiDo! Productions has already excited fans regarding the visual quality of the series.
This move is the latest link in Webtoon Entertainment's strategy to transform its digital comics into global media franchises. The company continues to increase its weight in the industry by recently announcing animated adaptations of popular series such as Lore Olympus, Eleceed, and GOSU. This news, which comes after Lumine concluded with its 177th episode at the end of 2024, acts as a celebration for the series' loyal readership. Although no release date or voice cast has been announced yet, the fact that the project is in the development stage has already created a huge buzz in the community.
