Lumine Webtoon Gets Animated Series Adaptation

Lumine, one of WEBTOON's most beloved fantasy webcomics, is officially becoming an animated series. The project, realized in collaboration with WEBTOON Productions and French production company OuiDo Productions, adds a new link to the platform's growing animation portfolio. Although the release date and platform details have not yet been shared, the news quickly excited fans.
Lumine, the webtoon by Emma Kira (formerly Kira), began publication on WEBTOON in 2016. The story follows the friendship and adventure-filled journey of Lumine, a werewolf, and Kris, a young witch trying to protect him from his dark past. The series has been noted for its emotional depth, fluid artwork, and character development, reaching over 1 million subscribers on the platform. Popular especially among young adult readers, the completed 130-episode series awaits new readers.
WEBTOON Productions operates as the production arm of WEBTOON, having produced animated adaptations of series such as The God of High School, Tower of God, and Noblesse in recent years. OuiDo Productions is a French studio known for independent animation projects like Lastman and Atoka, focusing on creative and high-quality works. This partnership can be seen as part of WEBTOON's strategy to improve adaptation quality by collaborating with Western animation studios.
This announcement also reveals WEBTOON's plans to leverage its original content across different media. While adaptations of series like Lookism and Duty After School premiered on Netflix last year, the animated adaptation of a more niche series like Lumine shows the platform's desire to appeal to all types of readers. Additionally, the werewolf and witch theme could be a breath of fresh air for viewers who enjoy shows like Teen Wolf or The Owl House.
In the coming months, details such as the production team, voice cast, and streaming platform are expected to be announced. Since WEBTOON Productions' previous adaptations have appeared on platforms like Crunchyroll and Netflix, Lumine is likely to follow a similar distribution strategy. Fans hope that this animated adaptation, which they've been waiting for since 2016, will stay true to the series without losing its essence. Stay tuned for more news!
