New Webtoon Adaptation from Netflix: Ryu Jun-yeol to Star in G'day Series

Netflix continues to expand its investment in South Korean content. According to recent reports, the platform is adapting the popular mystery-thriller webtoon G'day (known as Gudai in Korean), written by Yong Sung Choi and published on Lezhin Comics between 2015 and 2017, into a live-action series. While the working title of the project is reported to be Outback, the director's chair will be occupied by Jeon Doo-kwan, known for Seen: Strange Tales.
The series will star successful actor Ryu Jun-yeol, who has recently made a name for himself with productions such as The 8 Show and Alienoid. The story centers on Si-on, who sets out to find his sister Shi-young, who went to Australia and stopped communicating after a while. Moving into the share house where his sister stayed, the young man is drawn into an unsettling atmosphere as he realizes that the other residents of the house are not as innocent as they seem and that they have a connection to his sister's disappearance.
Although there are conflicting reports regarding which character Ryu Jun-yeol will play in the series, the actor is expected to bring to life the character of Hans, a highly mysterious and unsettling figure in the original webtoon. In the original work, Hans was depicted as a character who increased the tension of the story and served as the greatest obstacle for the protagonist. The fact that the actor will also appear in other Netflix projects such as Mousetrap and Revelations this year proves once again the platform's strong collaboration with Ryu Jun-yeol. It was also reported that Hong Kyung, who rose to stardom with Weak Hero Class 1, has joined the cast.
During its publication, G'day made a significant impact not only with its story but also with the advertisements Lezhin Comics hung in subway stations, which featured the creepy face of the Hans character. This 50-episode series, which masterfully blends elements of psychological thriller, violence, and mystery, has a cult status in the webtoon world. While there is great curiosity about how Netflix will bring this dark atmosphere to the screen, filming is planned to begin in the coming months. For fans of the genre, this adaptation seems to be a candidate to become a new favorite following successful webtoon adaptations like Sweet Home and All of Us Are Dead.
