Blue Box Season 2 Key Visual, Trailer, and Theme Songs Released
Blue Box (Ao no Hako) anime's highly anticipated second season has officially begun its promotional campaign. The production team has released the new season's key visual and trailer, while also announcing the artists who will perform the opening and ending theme songs. The new trailer, produced by Telecom Animation Film, offers the first hints at how the relationship between Taiki Inomata and Chinatsu Kano will evolve after the high school tournaments and summer festival.
In the released key visual, alongside Eimei High School's badminton and basketball team stars Taiki and Chinatsu, the other two key characters at the emotional center of the story, Hina Chono and Kyo Kasahara, also appear. The trailer highlights Taiki's preparation for the national championship, Chinatsu's career goals in basketball, and Hina confronting her feelings. The opening song will be "Koi no Yukue" performed by Macaroni Enpitsu, and the ending song will be "Contrast" performed by TOMOO. Both artists noted that the songs reflect the characters' growing pains and youthful excitement.
As you may recall, the Blue Box manga by Kouji Miura began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in April 2021 and quickly became one of the magazine's most popular romantic series. The series, which follows Taiki from the badminton club and his platonic love for Chinatsu, the star of the basketball team with whom he begins living under the same roof, has been praised for blending sports drama with a very natural love triangle. The manga has now surpassed 20 volumes, with over 7 million copies in circulation. The anime adaptation, whose first season aired for 25 episodes from October 3, 2024, to March 27, 2025, was brought to audiences through a partnership between Netflix and TBS, and was particularly well-received for its music by Official HIGE DANdism and Eve.
In the first season's finale, Taiki's answer to Hina and the closing of the distance between him and Chinatsu were among the most talked-about moments among fans. The second season is expected to adapt the "Inter-High Qualifiers" arc from the manga, which begins after the cultural festival and summer camp and completely changes the relationships. This arc is known for making the Taiki-Hina-Chinatsu triangle even more complex and for giving more focus to the supporting characters.
Blue Box Season 2 is planned to begin airing in October 2025 on TBS in Japan and worldwide on Netflix. It has also been confirmed that director Yuichiro Yano and screenwriter Yuko Kakihara will return to their roles.
