The Webtoon World Goes 3D: A Major Collaboration Between Webtoon Entertainment and Genies

The leader of the digital comic world, Webtoon Entertainment (Nasdaq: WBTN), has signed a new partnership that will fundamentally change how readers connect with their favorite stories. This strategic partnership with Genies, a company specializing in AI and avatar technologies, will offer 3D digital identities and chat experiences that allow fans to interact directly with manhwa characters.
Under this new collaboration, users will not only be able to read stories but also create their own digital avatars using Genies' advanced AI tools. With the project scheduled to launch this summer, fans will be able to chat with characters, discover hidden lore about the story universes, and collect exclusive digital items. In the first phase, characters from popular series such as The Greatest Estate Developer, The Knight Only Lives Today, and My In-Laws are Obsessed with Me will come to life in 3D format.
Genies is known in the tech world as a "unicorn" company with a valuation of over $1 billion. The firm, which has previously worked with global stars such as Justin Bieber, Rihanna, and Cardi B, counts former Disney CEO Bob Iger among its board members. This partnership aims to offer Webtoon's approximately 170 million monthly active users a brand-new social ecosystem through digital fashion and personalized identities.
Following its successful IPO in 2024, Webtoon Entertainment continues to prove that it will not limit its content to just screens. This move, which follows major partnerships with Disney and Warner Bros. Animation in recent months, is part of the company's "creator economy" vision. For fans, this means that their favorite characters will cease to be just drawings and will transform into friends they can interact with in the digital world. More series are expected to be included in this ecosystem and new monetization models are expected to be introduced in the coming months.
