1986 Doraemon Famicom Game Coming to Switch 2 and PS5: First Western Release
There is nostalgic news for Doraemon fans. The Doraemon game, originally released only in Japan for the Famicom in 1986, is returning on July 30 for Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5. This will be the game's first official Western release.
The Console Archives series, published by Hamster Corporation, aims to bring unforgettable titles from past game consoles to modern platforms. This new member of the series is a platform game developed by Hudson Soft and originally known simply as "Doraemon". Players control the blue robotic cat Doraemon, overcoming obstacles in various levels, defeating enemies, and using gadgets to progress.
The Doraemon series, with Fujiko F. Fujio's manga series that began in 1969, has gained a huge fan base worldwide. This first Famicom game of the series, which has maintained its popularity through anime adaptations, films, and countless games, holds great significance especially for collectors and retro gaming enthusiasts. Even though nearly 40 years have passed since its original release, the fact that the game never came to the West makes it a veritable "lost treasure".
The Console Archives version faithfully delivers the original Famicom experience while being equipped with modern features such as modern controls, save states, and screen filters. Price and pre-order information has not yet been announced, but the game is expected to appear on digital stores (eShop and PlayStation Store). This release also offers a unique opportunity for new-generation players who want to discover Doraemon's place in video game history.
