9 R.I.P. Sequel Is Coming: First Trailer and 2026 Release Date Shared

The news that otome and visual novel enthusiasts have been waiting for has finally arrived! Idea Factory International has released the official opening video for the sequel to 9 R.I.P., a game that has garnered great acclaim for its supernatural themes. Scheduled for release on the Nintendo Switch platform in 2026, both physically and digitally, this new production invites fans of the series once again into the mysterious atmosphere of the spirit world. One of the most notable details shared alongside the trailer is the game's opening song; the track "LOVExMAGiC", performed by Tonari no Sakata, already captures the dark yet enchanting tone of the game.
The sequel continues the story of our protagonist, Misa Isshiki, whom we know and love from the first game, right where it left off. Misa, a second-year high school student, will this time have to face the romantic consequences of her past decisions and her complex ties to supernatural beings. The development team announced that there will be 9 different character routes in the game. Among these routes are special stories that serve as direct continuations of the "Heavenly" and "Godly" endings of the first game. It is stated that, especially in the Heavenly Routes section, the choices players make will have serious consequences for the characters around them and could completely change the course of the story.
The giant name behind the series, Otomate, is preparing to showcase its quality once again in this project. While Amon sits in the director's chair, the character designs and illustrations bear the signature of the famous artist Yuuya, whom we know from hit titles like Cupid Parasite. The voice cast is a veritable parade of stars; leading industry names such as Toshiki Masuda, Ryōta Suzuki, Tetsuya Kakihara, and Nobuhiko Okamoto are bringing their iconic characters to life once again. The series, which made a big splash with its first game in Japan in June 2023 and in the West in October 2024, is considered one of the rare examples of otome games that blend psychological horror elements with romance.
So, why is this sequel so important? 9 R.I.P. managed to establish a deep atmosphere through urban legends and school ghost stories, not just by offering a love story. While this eerie vibe is preserved in the new game, a special surprise has also been prepared for collectors; a special trading card pack will be offered to players along with the Switch version of the game. Although we have to wait until 2026, Idea Factory is expected to keep the excitement alive during this period with new character reveals and gameplay videos. If you aren't ready to say goodbye to the spirits from the first game, this sequel might be just the consolation you are looking for!
