A Pen, Handcuffs, and a Common-Law Marriage Anime Gets First Promotional Visual, Trailer, and Cast
The anime adaptation of Mika's manga of the same name, A Pen, Handcuffs, and a Common-Law Marriage, has released its first promotional visual and trailer. According to Anime Corner, the series will air in January 2027. The promotional materials also revealed the project's main voice cast for the first time.
The lead roles feature Kōki Uchiyama (Kijima) and Yūichi Nakamura (Tōdō). The story follows an unregistered union between a writer and a police officer, known as a common-law marriage. The manga is serialized on Kadokawa's Comic it platform and stands out for its narrative blending romantic comedy and drama.
At the center of the series are the events that develop when writer Kijima and police officer Tōdō begin living under the same roof. The themes of a pen, handcuffs, and common-law marriage feed both the romantic and comedic tone of the story. In particular, the handcuff motif appears to heighten the tension and humor between the characters.
Mika is an artist who previously worked on the manga adaptation of the romantic comedy Koi wa Futago de Warikirenai (Love Is Indivisible by Twins). This new anime adaptation is especially exciting for viewers interested in the josei and BL genres.
