All Anime Scenes of Persona 4: Revival Will Be Prepared by Studio MAPPA
A major surprise has come for Persona 4: Revival: All of the game's anime cutscenes will now be produced by Studio MAPPA. This remake project, long-awaited by Persona fans, will feature cinematic sequences bearing MAPPA's signature. This also marks the first time MAPPA has undertaken an in-game animation production of this scale for a JRPG.
Originally released in 2008 for the PlayStation 2, Persona 4 quickly became one of the cult classics of the JRPG genre. In 2012, Persona 4 Golden aimed for the top on the Vita, and later appeared on platforms like PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. Now, in early 2024, Atlus surprisingly announced a remake project titled Persona 4: Revival. The most striking aspect of this project is that the in-game anime cinematics are completely redrawn, and a giant studio like MAPPA was chosen for this task.
MAPPA has made a name for itself in recent years with major productions such as Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan: The Final Season, and Vinland Saga. Although it hasn't previously worked on the Persona series with Persona 5: The Animation (CloverWorks/A-1 Pictures), this collaboration has generated great excitement given the studio's quality. Especially considering the critical role of anime scenes in the storytelling of Persona games, MAPPA is expected to make these scenes smoother, more emotional, and visually striking.
Although the project's release date has not been finalized yet, according to rumors, Persona 4: Revival is planned to be released in the second half of 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It is also said that the game will not only include visual updates but also some story expansions and new social links. MAPPA's signature is the biggest indication that it will provide a next-generation cinematic experience while preserving the nostalgic heart of Persona 4.
