AnimeJapan 2026: Exciting Joint Event Held for Snowball Earth and Kore Kaite Shine

The massive anime festival AnimeJapan 2026, held in Tokyo, hosted a joint stage event for two highly anticipated new productions. At the panel held on March 29, the teams behind Yuhiro Tsujitsugu's sci-fi epic Snowball Earth and Minoru Toyoda's award-winning work Kore Kaite Shine (Draw This and Die!) came together. The most notable moment of the event was a fun drawing segment where voice actors attempted to sketch their favorite scenes from their respective series in just 20 seconds. This intimate atmosphere allowed fans to directly feel the creative energy behind both productions.
Premiering on Nippon TV in April 2026, Snowball Earth combines giant monsters and mecha action with an emotional story. Brought to life by Studio KAI, the production is directed by Munehisa Sakai, known for Zombie Land Saga. The story follows the struggle of young pilot Tetsuo Yabusame and his loyal robot Yukio, who return to Earth 10 years after a galactic war only to find the planet completely covered in ice. The manga, which began its journey in Monthly Big Comic Spirits magazine in 2021, achieved great success by quickly exceeding 700,000 copies sold.
Kore Kaite Shine, which will meet audiences in July 2026, serves as a love letter to the world of manga. Winning the prestigious Manga Taisho award in 2023 and produced by Shin-Ei Animation, the series tells the story of high school student Ai Yasumi's passion for drawing manga and the challenges she faces in the process. Director Hiroaki Akagi stated that they will faithfully reflect the natural beauty of Izu Oshima island and both the painful and joyful aspects of the manga creation process on screen. The inclusion of strong names like Akira Sekine (Ai Yasumi) and Saori Hayami (Rei Teshima) in the lead roles raises expectations for the series' emotional depth.
The fact that both productions will be broadcast on NTV's popular "Friday Anime Night" block demonstrates the strategic importance the broadcaster places on these projects. While Snowball Earth prepares for an action-packed start on April 3, Kore Kaite Shine will take over the baton in the summer season with a calmer and more inspiring tone. For anime lovers, 2026 looks to be a year of both epic mecha battles and intimate stories that push the boundaries of creativity. New trailers and special illustrations for both series are expected to be shared in the coming weeks.
