Babies of Bread Stop-Motion Anime Series Begins in July

The adventures of the cute bread babies are growing! Japan-based CHOCOLATE Inc. has announced that its popular short animation Babies of Bread (known in Japanese as Pan no Akachan) will be adapted into a full-time television series. Premiering on July 4, 2026, the series will meet viewers as part of the "Doyō wa Nanisuru!?" program on the Fuji TV network every Saturday morning at 08:30. This news has created great excitement among anime fans, especially those who love short-format and "healing" (iyashikei) style productions.
The team behind the series consists of highly ambitious names. The director and screenwriter of the original short film, Haruka Ichikawa, is at the helm of this new project as well. The animation production is being handled by dwarf studios, one of the giants of the stop-motion world, known for works such as Rilakkuma and Kaoru and Pui Pui Molcar. Although the original production started on YouTube in 2024 as a computer-generated (CG) short film, the fact that the new television series will be prepared entirely using the stop-motion technique with physical puppets adds a much more intimate atmosphere to the project.
The story takes place in a small bakery in the middle of a city and follows the adventures of the "bread babies" who come to life after the bakery owner leaves the shop. Characters like Cream Bun, Baguette, Donut, and Croissant will provide viewers with both funny and sweet moments as they try to stop a thief trying to enter the shop. The voice cast is led by star names from the anime world, including Kana Hanazawa (in the roles of Cream Bun Baby 1 and the Bakery Owner). The cast also includes beloved voice actors such as Yui Ogura and Takayuki Yamada.
