Black Clover Anime Season 2 Airing in October 2026: Director Ayataka Tanemura Returns

Black Clover fans have finally received the long-awaited news: The second season of the anime series will be on television screens in October 2026. According to Anime News Network, Ayataka Tanemura, who directed the first season's 170 episodes and the 2023 film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, will also serve as director for this new season. This decision means that the story will continue from where it left off after the series' approximately five-year hiatus.
Adapted from Yūki Tabata's manga of the same name, Black Clover first aired in 2017 and quickly became a global phenomenon with its story set in a world centered on magic. The first season, which ended in 2021, focused on Asta and Yuno's journey to become the Wizard King. The subsequent film, set immediately after the Spade Kingdom war, pleased both old fans and new viewers. Now, with the second season, the remaining part of the story – especially after the manga's finale – is expected to be adapted into the anime.
Ayataka Tanemura's return to lead the project is an important guarantee for production quality and consistency. Tanemura had previously been praised for his visual storytelling and action scenes in both the TV series and the film. Additionally, studio Pierrot (later restructured as Pierrot Films) continuing the series indicates that the familiar art style will be preserved. The fact that the Black Clover manga has sold over 20 million copies worldwide explains why the series is so highly anticipated even after such a long break.
So what should be expected from this season? The story, approaching the final chapters of the manga adaptation, will include the final confrontations of Asta and Yuno as well as major surprises concerning Liebe, Dante, and other key characters. Although the exact episode count has not been announced, new trailers and cast announcements are expected in the coming months leading up to the October 2026 release date. For those wanting to make a deep return to the Black Clover universe, this season seems poised to bring the series' climax to the screen.
