Black Clover Season 2 Director Announced: Ayataka Tanemura to Meet Fans at Anime Expo 2026

Great news for Black Clover fans: The director of the second season has been officially announced. According to information from Japan, Ayataka Tanemura is returning as the director, who also helmed the first season and last year's film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King. This means stability will continue in the series' creative team.
At a special panel to be held at Anime Expo 2026, the voice actor of protagonist Asta, Gakuto Kajiwara, and director Tanemura will come together. The event will be an important opportunity to provide fans with detailed information about the new season and possibly screen a new trailer. Anime Expo is held annually in Los Angeles and is considered one of the world's largest anime events.
To remind, Black Clover, adapted from Yūki Tabata's manga of the same name, aired 170 episodes from 2017 to 2021 before going on hiatus. The manga concluded in August 2023. The film released in March 2023 revived the series, and with an official announcement last year, it was revealed that a second season is on the way.
The release date for the new season has not been announced yet, but the confirmation of the director and the planning of the Anime Expo panel indicate that production is progressing. The production, handled by Studio Pierrot, stands out especially for its action scenes and depth in the magic system. Tanemura's experience from both the film and the first season signals that the second season will be of the same quality.
Fans are eagerly looking forward to hearing hints about the new season from Asta's voice actor Kajiwara at Anime Expo 2026. Black Clover continues to be one of the most beloved shōnen series in recent years, and the second season will pick up where the story left off, bringing important battles from the manga to the screen. Stay tuned for more updates!
