Countdown for Black Torch Anime: Huge Cast and New Visual Unveiled at AnimeJapan 2026!

The long-awaited news is finally becoming clear! The TV anime adaptation of Tsuyoshi Takaki’s action-packed manga Black Torch was unveiled during a special panel held as part of AnimeJapan 2026. At the event, which took place on March 28, the star-studded cast who will bring the series' main characters to life took the stage. During this panel, which fans had been eagerly awaiting, a new color illustration created by the original creator Takaki was also displayed for the first time. In the visual, the series' iconic characters are reinterpreted with a modern and sharp style.
The series' protagonist, Jiro Azuma, will be voiced by one of the rising stars of recent times, Ryota Suzuki. We will hear Yoji Ueda in the role of the legendary Mononoke Rago, who accompanies him. The rest of the cast is essentially a 'parade of stars': industry giants such as Sayaka Senbongi (Ichika Kishigami), Junya Enoki (Reiji Kirihara), Junichi Suwabe (Ryosuke Shiba), and Reina Ueda (Hana Usami) are involved in the project. During the panel, the voice actors' chemistry with their characters and the hints they shared about the series heated up the atmosphere in the hall.
So, why is Black Torch so important? The manga, which was serialized in Jump SQ magazine between 2016 and 2018, quickly gained a dedicated fan base. The story follows Jiro Azuma, a descendant of a shinobi lineage who can talk to animals, as he encounters a wounded black cat named Rago. This dark fantasy, which begins with the duo merging their bodies to survive, is known for Takaki’s sharp art style and dynamic fight scenes. The HEART GEAR series, which the mangaka wrote afterward, also served as proof of the artist's visual talent, and fans have been wondering for years how this aesthetic would be translated to the screen.
This anime adaptation is generating great curiosity, especially regarding how that detailed and stylized visual style from the manga will be reflected on screen. The presentation at AnimeJapan gave promising signals about the production quality of the project. Although a definitive release date has not yet been announced, the assembly of such a strong voice cast shows just how ambitious the production is. With the first trailer to be released in the coming months, we look forward to fully entering the dark and charismatic atmosphere of the Black Torch world.
